The founder of Hope’s Home, Jacque Tisher, describes herself as a mother before all else. She was blessed with her first born daughter Acacia, in 1993. Jacque’s eyes were opened to the world of children with complex medical needs when her own daughter was diagnosed with spina bifida.
Early in life, Acacia blessed so many friends, family and complete strangers with her joyous attitude and grace. Her dreams were larger than life and she believed anything in this world was possible.
Being a mother to Acacia inspired Jacque to become a foster mother. In 2003, the opportunity came to meet another potential new member of the family, Hope Dawn Marie. The Tisher’s quickly fell in love with her beautiful smile and the twinkle in her eyes and Jacque immediately wanted to bring Hope home.
On February 3rd, 2004 Hope was held with heavy hearts as she passed away. She lived her short, sweet life of 10 months in the General Hospital in Regina.
During her time with Hope, Jacque quickly realized that the care that was available in a hospital setting was not available to families of children with complex medical needs in their own homes. Bridging the gap of community healthcare, childcare and proper funding is where the idea of Hope’s Home began. All children like Hope deserve a home and a family to love and care for them. And so, on November 1st, 2005 Hope’s Home opened their doors for the first time.
Hope’s Home no longer runs out of Jacque’s home, but the mission remains the same. To give children the opportunity to be kids, and to give families the chance to be families.
