Meet Isla

In the heart of Regina, a vibrant little girl named Isla fills the halls of Hope’s Home with her infectious laughter. At just two years old, Isla’s journey has been marked by brain and spine anomalies, necessitating additional support for communication, feeding, and safe movement. Isla, a spirited wheelchair user, has been growing more independent each day since she first arrived at Hope’s Home in March 2023.

Hope’s Home, a safe home of acceptance and care, has become a second home for Isla. Here, she is not just accommodated but celebrated for who she is. The supportive environment allows Isla to participate fully in activities with her peers, ensuring she has every opportunity to play, communicate, and enjoy her childhood safely.

The welcoming atmosphere at Hope’s Home is palpable. As Isla’s mother, Sarah, and father, Jimmy, walk through the doors with their daughter, she’s greeted by friendly faces. Isla waves and says hello to everyone they pass, her joyful spirit lighting up the room. The staff, who have become like family, know Isla by name and are genuinely invested in her well-being. Their dedication provides Sarah and Jimmy with profound comfort and reassurance.

Today, Isla is thriving. She is a bundle of joy with a bright personality. Her humour, strong will, and capacity for love are evident in everything she does. Isla’s passion for music is ever-present; she often asks for songs or makes her own tunes with Sarah. Recently, she has been fascinated with cars and buses, eagerly pointing out their colours during walks.

Isla’s communication skills have blossomed remarkably. While she has always been adept at using sign language and gestures, the past few months have seen a delightful explosion in her verbal language. Watching Isla sign, speak, and advocate for herself has been a heartwarming experience for Sarah and Jimmy, filling them with pride and joy.
