Meet Ebrahim
For most parents who are registering their child for child care, there’s mixed emotions. Sometimes excitement, hope, maybe a bit of apprehension, I could see all those things on Palwasha’s face, but mostly exhaustion. She seemed to be on autopilot.
Caring for her son, Ebrahim, who’s living with complex medical needs, is a full-time job and it was evident that sleepless nights and worry were taking their toll. The terrible pain he’s suffered due to his medical needs is hard to put into words.
Then there are all of the other emotions that go into how Palwasha feels as a mother, not being able to make things better for Ebrahim.
When Palwasha and her husband learned that Hope’s Home could care for Ebrahim, they felt unsure about what that would mean for Ebrahim and their family. Would he be safe, would he be scared, would he adapt, and would this actually work out in the long term?
To their surprise, it didn’t take long for Ebrahim to settle into the routine of going to Hope’s Home each day. Before long, he looked forward to arriving and being greeted by all who came to know and love him.
Ebrahim loves to be around other children, which is rarely available for him because of the high level of care he requires for his medical needs. Hope’s Home nurses, physical development workers, and support staff take excellent care of him. He lights up the centre every time he arrives!
For Palwasha, the relief of knowing that Ebrahim is being safely and lovingly cared for by an entire team allows her to rest, and it gives her hope—hope for their family and hope of returning to meaningful work. These are the first steps for this family, but with support from Hope’s Home, so much more is possible.
