Hope’s Home was opened in 2005 by Jacqueline Tisher, driven by her experiences as a mother to Acacia and Hope, who both had complex medical needs. It began with a single Child Care Centre and has expanded to 5 Early Learning and Child Care Centres and 5 Supportive Living Homes across Saskatchewan, providing care for over 500 children each year.

The first child to attend Hope’s Home was Ethan, who was diagnosed with CHARGE syndrome, a genetic condition that affects the heart, nerves, eyes and ears. Jacqueline met Ethan and his family as a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. His mom, Melanie, had taken a one-year maternity leave from her job to care for Ethan when he came home.

“I wanted to go back to work after maternity leave; we were a young family without a lot of income. It felt like a penalty, though, because we happened to have a child with medical needs, that there would be no daycare options. Hope’s Home changed that. Knowing that both my kids, one with complex medical needs and one with typical needs, could attend the same child care was life-changing. They both could be taken care of while socializing and make lasting friendships in a safe and inclusive environment while we worked,” said Melanie.

Ethan attended Hope’s Home for 9 years. The amazing staff at Hope’s Home were a huge part of his journey. Ethan is now 24 years old, attending University classes and no longer requires 24/7 support. “I feel so grateful that the people at Hope’s Home took care of me, thank you!” – said Ethan.

Over the last 20 years, we have cared for over 300 kids with complex medical needs.
